Poetry: “May”

I live in a college town, and sometimes I walk on campus. Have I seen that girl before? Yes, I’ve seen dozens of girls like her. I’ve always wondered if they liked looking the same, if they found comfort in that cliched unity.

May calls for a skewed spell
to make the boys go away

in college towns
skins burn sunlight

they all wear florals
they all look alike

wearing the same crappy sandals
from Forever 21

I wonder if they believe
their gods are the same too,

manufactured, made hipster,
punctured with holes

and overpriced. I wonder if
they believe the boys will care.
