Poetry: “Closet”

he lets me sleep in the closet
in the dark
void of him.

there I cleave my world
in half, a
barely breathing

bird of prey, and if I clip
her wings
and glue them

to my nightmares,
maybe the
cold misery can finally

fly away, and I can
open the closet
door, at peace.
